The Younger Sister
The
Caligari Bass has inspired another bass. This time, while
the basic shape has been retained, an entirely new feeling
has been obtained, with a different selection of woods
and electronics.
Caligari's baby sister features a gorgeous figured maple
top (shown below), chrome hardware, and a triple coil
MM pickups rather than the Lane Poor's of the first Caligari.
But Jack's skill is much in evidence, with a more elegant
shaping on the body which is, to my eye, in keeping with
the beautiful top wood. I'd be curious to know how the
differences in woods and electronics affect the sound
of the instrument - I'm sure the pickups alone must push
it into a sonic universe which is quite different from
that of its siblings.
